I'm Susanna, the founder of Bottega Noctuae, and this is how my journey began.
Bottega Noctuae was born in 2021 in Padua, Italy. At the time, I had just started working as a software developer, but I’ve always been deeply drawn to art, illustration, and craftsmanship. I felt the need to reconnect with my creative side — to make things with my hands and give shape to my imagination.
So I started sketching garments inspired by nature, cottagecore aesthetic, ballet costumes, and from the costumes of the ladies depicted in the paintings of the ancient villas and castles that I have always loved to visit. At first, I sewed everything by hand, just as my mother taught me when I was a child. But as my passion grew, I quickly became confident with a sewing machine, spending every evening creating dreamy garments — especially corsets, which have always fascinated me the most.
That’s how the name Bottega Noctuae came to be. In Latin, it means "the shop of the owl" — a nod to my night-time sewing sessions and the creative freedom I feel, like a nocturnal bird in flight.
Corset after corset, my dream took shape, and Bottega Noctuae became what it is today: an artisan brand dedicated to handcrafted, one-of-a-kind pieces. Over the years, my creations have been featured in magazines, walked down runways in New York Fashion Week, dressed many brides on their big day, and brought joy to those seeking garments as unique and special as they are.
I strongly believe in preserving the tradition of the handmade in Italy. That’s why each piece is carefully created by me, paying attention to every detail, using only ethically sourced materials from local Italian suppliers. Supporting Bottega Noctuae means embracing a fashion philosophy rooted in sustainability and ethical craftsmanship.
I believe everyone deserves to wear the dress of their dreams — one that fits beautifully and feels uniquely theirs. That’s why every garment is made to measure, for all body types and sizes.
